Back up phone photos to your PC

Copy new photos and videos from your Android phone to your own PC, sorted by device, year and month. No cloud involved.

Photo backup copies your phone’s photos and videos to a PC you own. Files that are already there are skipped, so you can run it as often as you like.

Steps

  1. Allow backup on the PC

    On the PC open your phone under My devices › Permissions and set Photo backup to Allow (it is off by default).

  2. Choose the PC on the phone

    Tap Photo backup on the phone’s home screen and pick the PC under Back up to.

  3. Back up

    Tap Back up now. Photos arrive in Pictures\Personal Bridge Backup on the PC, sorted by device, year and month.

  4. Make it automatic (optional)

    Turn on Back up automatically when charging on Wi-Fi. The phone then backs up about every six hours while charging, and never over mobile data.

Tips

  • Automatic backup is scheduled by Android. If it rarely runs, exclude the app from battery optimisation: Stop Android from pausing the app.
  • Command line: pdb backup <device> <folder> backs up a folder to another device.
