Send a link from your phone to your PC

Open a web page from your Android phone in your PC’s browser in one tap, or hand over the PDF page you were reading with Continue.

Available in preview Updated Works on
  • Windows
  • Android
  • Linux
  • Browser

Tap Link on the phone, pick your PC, and the page opens in the PC’s browser. Continue goes a step further: it hands over the web page, or a PDF and its page number, so you carry on exactly where you were.

At a glance

  • Links open in the other device’s browser by themselves.
  • Continue carries a PDF name and page number, not just a web address.
  • Only http and https links are accepted.
  • The Chrome and Edge extension adds Continue on <device> for the current tab.
  • It works the other way too, from PC to phone.

Step by step

  1. Pair phone and PC

On the same Wi-Fi, click Add device on the PC and tap Scan QR code on the phone, then confirm the matching 6-digit code on both.

  2. Send from the phone

Tap Link on the phone’s home screen, enter the address and choose the PC.

  3. Send from the PC

Open the phone in the desktop app and use Open a link › Open on device.

  4. Hand over a PDF page

On the PC, Continue takes a web address, or a PDF name and Page. Click Continue there.

  5. Check the receiver’s permissions

The receiving device opens it if Open links and Continue are allowed for the sender. Both are on by default.

Straight from the browser

If you work in Chrome or Edge on the PC, the browser extension puts Send to device in the right-click menu and Send this tab in its toolbar popup. Alt+Shift+S sends the current tab to the device you used last.

Command line

pdb url <device> https://example.com opens a link on another device, and pdb continue <device> --pdf report.pdf --page 37 hands over a PDF page.

Questions

Why didn’t my link open?

Only http and https links are accepted, and the receiver must allow Open links for the sender. Check that both apps are running, too.

Does the link pass through your servers?

No. It goes directly from one device to the other, end-to-end encrypted, on your network or over the internet.

I only want to paste the address somewhere. What then?

Send it as clipboard text instead; see Share the clipboard and snippets. It lands in the other clipboard without opening anything.
