Getting started

Update, uninstall or reset the app

Install a new version over the old one without losing pairings, remove the app cleanly, or start fresh with a new device identity.

Updates keep your paired devices and settings. Uninstalling removes the program but deliberately leaves your data folder and received files alone.

Steps

  1. Check your version

    On Windows open Settings › About; the latest version is shown on the home page of this site.

  2. Update on Windows

    Download the new installer and run it. It installs over the current version for your user account; your pairings stay.

  3. Update on Android

    Download the new APK and install it the same way as the first time. If you still have a test version v0.3.1 or earlier, uninstall it once first, because those were signed with a different key.

  4. Uninstall

    Windows: Settings › Apps › Installed apps › Personal Device Bridge › Uninstall. Android: long-press the app icon › App info › Uninstall.

Where your data lives

  • Windows: %LOCALAPPDATA%\PersonalDeviceBridge (device key, trusted devices, settings). Received files: Downloads\Personal Bridge.
  • Linux: ~/.local/share/PersonalDeviceBridge.
  • Android: inside the app. Uninstalling the app deletes it; received files in Download/Personal Bridge stay.

Start from scratch

To reset a PC completely, quit the app from the tray and delete %LOCALAPPDATA%\PersonalDeviceBridge. The PC gets a new identity at the next start, so remove it from your other devices and pair again.
