Questions
Is there an app for iPhone, iPad or Mac?
Not at the moment. Personal Device Bridge runs on Windows 10 and 11, Android 8.0 or later, and Linux (command line). Someone receiving a link only needs a browser.
Do both devices have to be on the same Wi-Fi?
For pairing, yes: the same Wi-Fi, or the PC on the phone’s hotspot. After that, paired devices also connect over the internet (Connect over the internet).
Is there a file size limit?
No. Files move in 1 MiB pieces and resume after interruptions, so the only limit is free space on the receiving device. An organisation policy can set a limit.
Where are received files saved?
On Windows in Downloads\Personal Bridge, on Android 10 and later in Download/Personal Bridge, and with the command line in ~/Downloads/Personal Bridge (or --download-dir). Photo backups go to Pictures\Personal Bridge Backup.
Can I choose a different download folder?
Not in the desktop app yet; it always uses Downloads\Personal Bridge. The command line accepts --download-dir.
Does it use my mobile data?
Not on Wi-Fi or the app’s own hotspot. Internet mode uses mobile data when the phone is on it. Automatic photo backup never runs over mobile data.
Can I pair more than one phone or PC?
Yes. Pair as many of your devices as you like; each one has its own permissions.
Why is there always a notification on my phone?
Android requires a visible notification for apps that stay connected in the background. It is how your phone can receive at any time. You can hide it in the notification settings of the “Background connection” channel.
Does it work without internet?
Yes. On the same local network, or with the phone’s hotspot, no internet connection is needed.
What does “Preview” mean?
The apps work and are tested, but it is an early version: some things may still change, and testing on many different phones and networks is ongoing. Your feedback helps.
How do I report a bug or suggest a feature?
Email projectteamforyou@gmail.com with your device, app version (Settings › About) and the steps to reproduce. Security issues: see How your data is protected.
Does Personal Bridge read my files or clipboard in the background?
No. Nothing is sent unless you send it or turn on a feature for a device, such as photo backup or notification mirroring. Clipboard sharing is always a deliberate action.
