Send large files to anyone with a one-time link
Share a big file with someone who doesn’t have the app: they open a one-time link in any browser and the file comes from your PC, encrypted.
On the PC, open Send by link › New link, choose how long it is valid and pick the file; the link is copied for you to send. The recipient opens it in a current browser and the file streams straight from your PC, end-to-end encrypted. Nothing is uploaded, and the link works for one download.
At a glance
- The recipient needs only a current browser, no app and no account.
- The file isn’t uploaded anywhere; it comes straight from your PC.
- Valid for 1 hour, 24 hours or 7 days, and good for one download.
- The part of the link after
#is the decryption key.
Step by step
Create a link
In the desktop app open Send by link › New link.
Choose how long it lasts
Under Valid for, pick 1 hour, 24 hours or 7 days, then click Choose file.
Send it to one person
The link is copied to the clipboard. Send it only to the recipient, since it contains the key.
Keep your PC on
The file travels while your PC is on and connected. The status changes from Waiting for recipient to Sending and Delivered.
How it stays private
No file is stored on a server: our service only helps the two browsers find each other. The file goes end-to-end encrypted from your PC to the recipient, and the key is in the part of the link after #.
Good to know
- Links are created on a PC: the Windows app, or
pdb link <file> --minutes 1440on Linux. - Each link allows one download, then it ends. Use Cancel to withdraw a link early.
- The file only travels while your PC is on and connected, so don’t let it sleep before the download is done.
